I’ve found through art what interests me the most about our existence is the many levels and lives we experience as we grow.
Photography has always been in my life at varying degrees, but I did not decide to make a go of it professionally until the age of 32. I earned a degree in photography from the Antonelli Institute in Philadelphia, and moved to L.A. over a year ago.
That whole process has been a huge factor in the creation of the pieces represented here. I try to create environments where there are transformations going on, with a doorway into and out.
I take images I’ve created by digital means or film, assemble them as a collage, and then distort and manipulate the layers on the computer until the finished piece. What I like about them is that they are pieces of my life from my past as well as my present, blended together into something completely new. The fun in creating them is not knowing what the finished piece will look like when I begin. I let them develop organically.
Surrealism inspires me, whether it’s represented through photography or paint, and the world of the abstract holds limitless possibilities to me.
